Safety and accessibility

In compliance with international safety standards, Baleària personnel will ask for your identification documents when boarding the vessel.

Furthermore, the port authorities control the access of passengers and their baggage using scanners and walk-through metal detectors; vehicles that board may be checked extensively.

Under state tobacco laws, smoking is prohibited inside vessels. Smoking is allowed on exterior decks in specially designated areas with ashtrays. It is your responsibility to keep the space clean when smoking in these areas.Throwing cigarette butts into the sea is prohibited. Doing so could entail a fire risk for the vessel, in addition to damaging the environment. 

 Smokingin all the company's onshore offices is prohibited.

PROHIBITED ACCESS ITEMS

Items for which access is prohibited in the passenger area may be transported in the interior of vehicles as baggage where this option exists, unless possessing them constitutes a criminal or administrative violation which would require their being confiscated and handed over to the competent authorities. 

• Prohibited weapons under existing Arms Rules (including knives). 
• Firearms and ammunition whose legal possession isn't demonstrated 
• Explosives of any kind, pyrotechnic products and electric or pyrotechnic detonators.   
• Flammable liquids for use as fuel 

• Illegal, trivial or unjustified possession of other items whose mere presence in the passenger area threatens the physical integrity of persons. 
• Alcoholic beverages.If a passenger brings alcoholic beverages on board, they must be seized and held until the arrival at the destination port.

CONTROLLED ACCESS ITEMS

Controlled access items must be submitted to the Ship Security Officer to be kept in  an adequate place on the vesseland returned to their owner at the end of the voyage, unless the carrier is travelling with a vehicle as baggage and agrees to leave them inside the vehicle. 

• Legally held firearms under the provisions of existing Arms Rules.  
• Bladed weapons for ornamental use, of sizes and characteristics prohibited under existing Arms Rules. 
• Personal weapons of defence or firearms carried by members of the security forces or security guards on private travel or without a contingent.    
• Ammunition for legally held firearms carried. 

• Flammable or corrosive liquids for professional use. 
• Fake firearms 
• Knives, axes and cutting or sharp objects for professional use 
• Bows, arrows and crossbows for sporting use. 
• Other items or products whose carrying is justified by professional necessity and whose presence in the passenger area threatens the physical integrity of persons. 

EXCEPTIONS 

The following items are not subject to access control to the passenger area: 

• Service weapons carried by members of the State security forces in all types of travel. 
• Arms carried by members of the State security forces, security guards and in-service private security escorts.

The  introduction into the European Union of products of animal origin (bovine, ovine, caprine and porcine species) is subject to legislation and strict veterinary control.Products from these types of animals may contain pathogens that cause such infectious diseases as foot-and-mouth disease.To prevent this, passengers travelling from Morocco or Algeria must comply with established regulations.

In case of an emergency, a signal will be emitted through the general alarm system (warning sirens over the vessel's speakers) : six short whistles followed by one long one. The use of elevators is prohibited during an emergency. 

Instructions are available in the cabins, rooms and safety cards located throughout the vessel and at meeting points. We encourage you to review and familiarise yourself with them. 

You must follow the instructions of crew members at all times.

The application of international safety standards entails restricted access to certain areas of the vessel (such as the hold, where only drivers of vehicles are allowed and where taking photographs or recording videos is prohibited, or areas where the crew works with ropes and cleaning and safety elements).

DECKS

On fast ferries, being high-speed vessels, passengers aren't allowed on deck during the voyage (access is permitted, however, when the vessel is in port or when sailing at reduced speed during departure and entry to ports. On all other vessels, passengers can walk on the deck without problems during the trip.  

Please pay attention to outside doors, stairs and decks, as the floor could be slippery. Throwing rubbish into the sea is prohibited.

The company is not responsible for supervising minors. They should always be under the care and supervision of an adult.

Passenger safety is the top priority of the captain and crew. For this reason, the company's vessels, in addition to complying with all implementation and inspections regulations requested by the government and other bodies, includes additional safety equipment.  

Lifejackets are distributed in appropriately marked closets and boxes.If crew members order passengers to put them one, follow their instructions. 

Life rafts and lifeboats are located on the boarding deck and sides of the vessel. Lifeboat capacity is 25% greater than the total number of people the vessel is authorised to transport.

All vessels have a closed-circuit television system with recording system.Also, the vessel is always able to contact the company's shore-based personnel and the competent authorities with regard to protection to ensure a safe trip.

The conditions under which a minor may travel without a chaperone vary according to age and trip: 

DOMESTIC TRIPS 

• Minors can travel alone starting at age 14. However, they must prove their age witha national ID. 
• Minors under 14 whotravel within the country cannot travel alone. 
• If a minor is under 5 years old, the   chaperone must be 18 years of age or older. 
• If a minor is 5-13 years old,  the chaperone can be 16 years of age or older (and must have an national ID).If the chaperone is not the minor's parent or legal guardian, the presentation of the written consent of the parent or legal guardian is required, along with a photocopy of their national ID, official Family Record Book, in which the minor and the authorising parent appear, or a civil registration certificate. 

INTERNATIONAL TRIPS 

They can only travel only if they are18 years of age or older.
